This week being the last week of the genius hour project, I have decided to write my biggest article yet that appeals to the widest audience. The topic will be net neutrality. Which relates to every single person who uses the internet. Therefore it can appeal to any audience. The big thing in this scenario is to remain unbiased. There are so many opinions on net neutrality and it will probably be the hardest to keep it out of this one. Either way I am determined to succeed at it.
I can say that I am pretty confident in how the project turned out. I think that I hit all the points I was hoping to and I accomplished my goals. My project was a success in my opinion. Now all I have to do is create a power point presentation and present this which shouldn't be an issue.

Finally after hiding in the shadows I have returned. This weeks article was short because I ran short on things to write about. Unfortunately the article I had planned on writing fell through so I had to go with a back up. This however wasn't any less interesting than the other.
This week I wrote about the Matt Lauer sexual harassment scandal. I wrote pretty much just to call out the fact that so many men in positions of power can become sexual predators and it shouldn't be happening. It was short and to the point but I think it worked well to get back into the swing of things. Next week I'm planning on writing a bigger one about what I had planned for today. this next one will definitely be relatable and important for everyone so I could probably kill a lot of birds with one stone. I've been pretty much planning behind the scenes for my project a lot at this point. I haven't come out with anything new lately because I am trying to find new ways of making my website pop and make it more interesting to look at. I have tried out a new website maker but I didn't like the setup and it was uncomfortable for me to use. I decided against making a new website because it seemed like just too much of a leap and an unnecessary one at that.
I have also been posting about my site on all of my social media trying to help gain popularity and maybe get more of a regular audience. I'm not sure if this is working though considering my analytics are never working. from what I can tell though, it seems to be working out pretty well. I have also been trying to work on my journalism and writing skills. This is just a little detail to enhance my writing. Most of these things are minor but I do want to make at least one big change especially before week 12, so that I can spice up my project some. You wouldn't believe the amount of views my page is getting now. I have working analytics now and my website is looking the best it ever has. It went from 1 visitor a week to 30 which is a very significant change. I guess I really have been good with spreading the word. I am also getting a lot of positive feedback on it.
I am now trying to get out of all the background work and start getting up more articles. with my increasing audience I feel like I need to be creating more for them to use on my site so I'm trying to do a lot of brainstorming. I will very soon be trying ads on my website to make a revenue off of my articles. The more my audience grows too, the more I will make. This could really become much bigger than anticipated if I work even more at it. I cant wait to come up with new ideas to draw attention to my site. For the past week I stayed laid back with my website and let it simmer. My page views and analytics are really low now and I am not very sure why. I am getting the least amount of views on my website of them all. I am really just mostly in dire need of more advertisement. The only thing I can really think of is that people are going straight to my site rather than through weebly, which it where I see my analytics.
I have spent a lot of time sharing my site with other people and I have handed out countless flyers and I have even posted about it on my social media. These are leading people straight to my website rather than my weebly which may explain the fact that I don't see my analytics. I know people are looking though because I have gotten feedback about it. In the coming week I'm just going to have to write a lot more articles and I will have to advertise a lot more. I plan on really reeling in business and maybe putting ads on my website for revenue, but that's more for the future to see. This week nothing new really happened. My site hasn't changed too much in the past week although there have been small changes to the site itself. I tried changing the color scheme to give the page more of an aesthetic but I ended up keeping the originals theme.
The flyers that I have seem to be kind of working. Some people have been using them and I have handed them out to multiple people. This weebly site particularly is at an all time low in statistics. I'm still not sure how the analytics are for my actual site though because the account still doesn't seem to be working. I have also started using my social media to help myself advertise for my site. I think it might really be working. This week I really only focused the most on advertisement but this next upcoming week I will focus more on my article writing and my site. This week was a very good week with my website. I started "advertising" you could say. I made a bunch of flyers and I'm just handing them out left and right. I put a QR code on the papers too so that people could scan it and be at my site. I think this will drive more people to my site. I just need to set up a google analytics account now so that I can track the amount of people that look at my site.
I am also worked on getting ads on my site to see if I could generate revenue. It most likely wouldn't be a lot and I'm not in it for the money but I'd really like to see if I could successfully do that with my site. I also tried changing the formatting of my site but it proved to be a failure so I returned it to its original state. I think that soon enough if I advertise even more and keep making more improvements I could get many more people to visit and boost my statistics. Maybe at some point I'll be able to make a profit off of my website. For now I will just keep writing articles. Also my Weekly Report idea kind of didn't work out because I couldn't collect enough news from the week to effectively write a weekly report. Maybe sometime in the future when I get help I can manage better. This week I decided to write an article about a much more political subject. This subject was also surprisingly less controversial. It was mostly about economics which is a strong point of mine. I enjoyed writing about the new tax plan and I feel like I was really able to simplify the articles written by larger news outlets. I think it is really beneficial that I could simplify the economics because most U.S. citizens can't understand complicated economics.
Writing about economics is new to me and I think it appeals to most people considering it affects every U.S. citizen. I also think it helps that there are no opinions in the way of my articles which really shines light on the fact that Trump isn't doing as bad as the mainstream media says he is. In fact his tax plan is brilliant and is growing support and he is creating millions of jobs. I think by taking these toxic biases out of the news people can really see the truth. My website also is still awaiting the Weekly Report which is what I mentioned in my previous blog. Once that kicks off I will be able to provide even more information to my readers. I think that o far my website has been a huge success and I plan to keep it going for a long time and grow myself as a writer and as an involved citizen. After doing this week's article I realized that it is hard to pick stories and it is hard to do so many stories with such little time. I've been brainstorming some ideas of how exactly I could solve this problem and still keep the website going and serving it's purpose. With a new method I could cover many more stories and use much less time.
I've come up with the idea of doing a weekly article that covers all the events that happened that week. There would be bolded subtitles to separate certain stories from others but they would all be contained in one article. This is a quick and efficient way to sum up the weeks events and facts into a single helpful article. This could help many people catch up to current events in a short amount of time. Bigger more important stories may also get a separate post just for them. I feel that by trying this new method I could be more helpful as a "news outlet" and I could be much more efficient. This may end up changing some of the overall layout of the website. I was planning on changing the website a little bit anyways so that I could have a more modern and clean look. This week I wrote one huge story. The article was hard to write given how heart wrenching the situation in Las Vegas. I wrote my longest article on this incident. After this I quickly realized that this story was dominating the national news. Now I'm not complaining because I do believe that Las Vegas deserved the amount of coverage it got. I just observed that when there is a big story it can take over the media for a week.
This was a problem for me because I could barely find any other stories worth writing about. I planned on writing 3 articles this week. I couldn't find anything else that is worth reporting because the shooting took up most of this week's news. Going along with this, I did include a more political point of view to challenge myself and I believe I did a good job of staying unbiased. My next story will most likely be a political article so I can challenge myself a lot more. I will do a controversial topic to write about and I will keep in impartial. I will also try and do multiple stories this coming week. |
